Love/Hate

love hate

So, if you read my blog, you will find that I wrote a whole piece on my love for the Nook HD Tablet.  Well, I am sad to say, that my love for the HD was short-lived.  I bought my Nook HD Tablet and didn’t use it for a whole week so that I could wait to put the screen protector and case I had purchased through Amazon.  I didn’t want to accidentally scratch it. It was by far, my best reader ever!!! Or so I thought.

quote on love

From the moment I first discovered Nook, I have owned every device Barnes and Nobles has introduced. I can’t help it, I love Nook, love everything about it and can’t resist buying their devices.  Currently, my daughter has her own Nook Tablet and loves it! I  have the Nook Simple Touch Glowlight (LOVE!) and bought the Nook HD Tablet. It takes some time to figure out the tools and to navigate through the screens.  However, with some time, it is a great Tablet. It doesn’t use much battery and I love that it includes more fonts, more font styles, and backscreens to choose from. I also love that the dim light works great at night.

netgalley

Because I review books for publishers, I often use NetGalley to download the book.  WELL….after 2.5 hours, no minutes, not seconds….HOURS…2.5 hours of being on the phone with Nook Support (after I spent 3 hours by myself trying to figure it out), I found out that Nook HD Tablet is not compatible with Adobe Digital Editions and NetGalley.  Nook is still trying to work out the kinks with those companies and so I can’t download books from Adobe Digital Editions, which I always use. I use that more than Overdrive.com.

old is the new new

So, I’ve learned a valuable lesson.  Sometimes, just sometimes, “Old is the new new”, and it’s okay to not have the latest device.  After coming to terms with the fact that my beautiful Nook HD Tablet just won’t do the things I need it to do, I hooked up my Nook Tablet to the computer and downloaded my books from Adobe Digital Editions with no problem.

And, that, is my love/hate relationship with Nook and it’s irristible hold it has on me with their new devices.  I’ve learned that not all devices will do what I need and I may just need to stick with what is working.  So, I am glad I still had my Nook Tablet and my handy little Nook Simple Touch to help me tonight….when another device that is supposed to better and newer just couldn’t do what my old devices could ;)
